What will happen to “almighty” DotA the pride of Warcraft 3 after Valve publishes DotA 2? For all who may think that people are losing interest in DotA due to age and old graphics engine or even due to its competition: League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, here is an evidence, that DotA has not lost its place in the world of gaming.

Google has a great tool to determine a certain trend:

DotA Trend (source: google trends)

This graph shows that DotA is not only getting the same amount of publicity, but it is also gaining in popularity.

There are a few milestones marked on the graph:

A: Lead Dev On DotA: Allstars Joins Valve
B:
Valve Trademarks ‘DOTA’
C: (Unimportant non-dota mark)
D:
Valve Announces Dota 2

It will be quite interesting to monitor these statistics through the upcoming years. Changes will surely come, when DotA 2 is released but only time will tell.

DotA 2 is also getting some attention:

Dota 2 Trend (source:http://www.google.com/trends?q=dota+2&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0)

The rapid growth on announcement is common (marked with A).

Do you believe that gamers will still be interested in DotA or will it lose its players due to the release of DotA 2 somewhere in late 2011?
