Maybe Valve will see your comments and grant your wishes.
But first I ask you: How Much Would You Pay For DotA 2 (2011)?

Be reasonable, the game will surely be awesome.
And about monthly fee:
Also place a reason for your price in the comment section.

DotA 2 Price - How Much Would You Pay,“As for my part, I’d pay all up to 60$, with no problem with a monthly fee from 10 to 20$” – Why? Because I love the game story, I love Valve, I love DotA (1).

It should be free like the old DotA. But if not, I will pay anything up to 60$ for the game. Monthly fee would suck tho.
When are the promo and trailer videos coming out??
“How about monthy fee?”
Up to 5$
from 5$-10$
from 10$-20$
or 20$+
we cant vote for no monthly fees??
I really don’t think this game will be worth monthly fees. Remember its a FREE game if you have Warcraft or cheap if you buy HoN or LoL. What do you think ppl will play the game that cost $ or the Free one?
people dont want monthly fee that is stupid what about
League of Legends of Heroes of Newerth you will be destroyed if you put monthly fee , this will only provoke hacking and stuff . Price should be something between 10 and 20 euros not more.
@Dave42 now you can!
Sure it sucks that is costs money but there are many advantages to that. First, you get rid of some percentage of people who are trolling the game.
Second, you get professional support when money in involved.
i would pay up to the full 60 for the game. But if it comes to a monthly fee i’m just going to stick with LoL, Dota 1, and HoN. Only MMORPGs should have a monthly. Imo It should be free like LoL. Riot still makes bank with all the stuff you can buy with real money such as skins and none of it gives you an advantage over none payers.
I’m with everyone else.
I’d dish out up to $50 or so,
!! but IF AND ONLY IF !!
the game had no monthly fees.
Why?
Original DotA had no monthly fees.
TF2 (another Valve online game) has no monthly fees.
If they did charge, it would come off as greedy.
Hell, I’d even be okay if the game had Sponsorship or Advertisements of some sort if it meant no monthly fees.
PS:Have you thought putting video to this blog to keep the people more interested?I think it works.
There is no official videos yet!
i would pay 60$ for the game, but if there is monthly fee,i’d stick to dota1
about 2 years ago
i’d pay up to 29.99$ for the game.
If it had a monthly fee I most likely would not play it unless the software was free.
I would happily pay a monthly fee for it as well, as I have paid a monthly fee for MMORPG’s that are far less fun than DotA.
If there is monthly fee, good bye!
Last time in dota we had only low-frequent patches and most were not balanced .. BUT still it was fun! so why monthly fee?
I’d pay up to $50
But Monthly fee is just too much!!
i would gladly pay up to about 50 or so but the monthly fee i would not
about 2 years ago
I will not buy the game if it has a monthly fee. Period. I would prefer the price to be around 30-40 dollars, but would be willing to pay up to 50.
I agree with many of the prior statements, I feel that as a marketing move having a monthly fee will be hugely detrimental. League of Legends as well as the original dota were both free and, if they’re smart, will remain free. In order to maintain there consumers they need to analyze the available information which should lead to the conclusion that charging for a game that was originally free and expecting to maintain even 25% of that market segment would be hard to achieve. Increasing the one time cost to make up for this would make the most sense. Blizzard host’s ( for the most part ) free online gaming for this exact reason, again with a few exceptions. These exceptions work due to their continued monthly fee from the start, setting the “mood” if you will, for a consistent monthly fee from then on. Hopefully their marketing department will convey this to them. On a personal note as a player from the very start of the Original Dota I will not purchase this product if they introduce a monthly fee.
with monthly fee: 10 players,
widouth monthly fee: 1000000 players
Free !
well i think it wont be free , valve has no reason making a whole game for free , 1 time fee would be nice just like hon , 25-35 bucks , everyone is happy )))
It will be on steam so every xmas it will have 75% discount anyway =d
about 2 years ago
I don’t like the idea of a monthly fee. I never have. 25-35 bucks I’d gladly pay for it though.
any price for the game would be OK. It’s worth it, but a monthly fee is just too greedy. I have been playing dota for a long time now, but I will not buy dota 2 if there is a monthly fee.
Not having a monthly fee would make u guys more money than having it because no one would buy dota 2 if it had a monthly fee.
Forget charging for the initial game (unless it comes with some equivalent subscription time period to cover production costs). You should investigate a tiered pay-to-play system where users could buy tokens in a range of values and discounts to be used on single games, or duration passes for days, weeks, months or years.
As an addendum to my prior comment, this sort of system has a few integrative benefits. First, you’re obviously supporting the ongoing development of the game which will likely never cease and customers now have more power in the arrangement, unlike HoN.
Next, some players can hop in and just play a few casual games with their friends now and then for a paltry $3-5, as opposed to a steep one-time fee; improving market share with casual gamers.
Most importantly, however, you can integrate a reward system into the game wherein player-coaches can be awarded game playing credit for their contributions to the community (not to mention coaching for free). This can easily be extended to tournaments or other unforeseen reward systems.
Well I would pay up to $35 but players will first buy HoN it $30. I really don’t like the monthly fee … it should be fRee
about 2 years ago
I’m going to just reiterate what everyone is saying.
i’d be more than happy to pay up to 60 for the game. no problem. just like a console game or new computer game. but monthly fee? fuck no. Theres no reason for that. I wouldn’t pay for it. and neither would other people. Dota 1 would remain the game of choice.

I would pay around 30-40dollars and 0 (zero) monthly fee.
40-50$ no monthly fee, i’m fine with that.
I would pay evrything it shall cost, but with a monthly fee i would not play the game, definetly not and all the other guys i know too. So please Valve: Don’t make us pay each month!! ^^
about 2 years ago
I would only pay around $30 dollars for the game, and if theres monthly fees, I rather not play.
I would buy the game just because I think it looks bad ass and all but a monthly fee? Since when did you ever have to pay a monthly fee for a Dota type game? I mean back when i had Wc3 i bought the whole game and dota came with it… then later on i bought Hon and i think that was worth it because still no monthly fee. And now i play LOL and the only time i ever spend money on that is when i buy skins and heros which is not bad. I would pay a decent amount for Dota 2 but no fee sowwy
about 2 years ago
either make the game cheap and then put a cheap monthly fee or make the game decent price and charge an reasonable annual fee so that the consumers to unhappy and the rich corporations keep there profits.. You know servers arn’t free and if the game is free they’l need alot more.. So if they charge lets say 10-20$ a year then this will cover the cost of the servers with a little extra profit for them.. I’d be happy to do that if they kept updating the game frequently to ensure a good game!
go for 25-35 will be cool
if its more
think about it but no mount fee
DoTA was free, HoN is free, and LoL is free:
If it wants to have a chance against them, specially LoL, it’s not gonna have any monthly fee.
Maybe the game would have to be paid, cause DoTA was free, but not Warcraft, so that would be reasonable.
The better DoTA2 will be, comparing it to LoL, the more they will be able to make us pay for it.
So, there it is, if you wanna make us pay for it, make it much better than LoL; and if you wanna make us pay even more for it, make it even much better than LoL.
Simple, ain’t it?
I think a monthly fee would push away most of the old DotA players, they will prefer to play the original DotA for free. Maybe a moderate pricing, between 25$ and 49,99$, and NO MONTHLY FEE at all. Monthly fee sucks.
Now there are plenty of similar games for free. Players will prefer those over DotA 2 mostly because of the monthly fee. Isn’t nice. Isn’t cool. Make it worth to pay a whole lot of bucks to buy it, and then, keep it the way it is. A monthly fee would make us worth the constant improving of the game? The original DotA gets better at every version, and they’re download free.
Don’t make that mistake. You won’t like the results.
would pay price for the game but not every month!!! better if they did same like lol that you can buy some skins n sht so te ppl who want 60 dolla + monthly fee can buy skins n sht instead
about 2 years ago
no option to vote for $0 monthly?
website trolling the whole internet.

Id be willing to pay at like 50 or 60 for the game WITH no monthly fees. OR, maybe.. something like paying 30-40 and paying 20 each year. That would sound reasonable.
MONTHLY FEE = NO DOTA 2 BUYING
40 $ only for the game and NO MONTHLY FEES
DONT BE GREEDY VALVE NO MONTHLY FEES !!!

The game is worth every penny if you ask me but a monthly fee will ruin it, I suggest buying the game in a price between 10$-30$

I’m fine with paying up to 50$ as a price but I won’t pay a penny for a monthly fee. Just to be clear.
how about a nice price without fee, this should be fair
about 1 year ago
for real i would like to pay around $ 10 to 20 but monthly fee hell no. This is not fair for other people if they can’t afford it. In my opinion, it should be free. I love dota but i can’t pay it T_T
about 1 year ago
i wouldnt pay anything and im a big fan of dota (20-30 games a day) but i never paid for anygame and will never do it should be free same as other dota in warcraft unless u want ppl to go play LoL or HoN.
ive been playing dota for about 5 6 years ( as soon as they released the first version) and i want it all free thumbs up if want free gaming.
A reasonable price for buying the game would do . But cut the GREED Valve! No one’s playing the game with monthly fees. People would rather play the original DotA, LoL and HoN for free instead of paying for this. -.-*
about 1 year ago
monthly fee would be a major turnoff to players =/ other than that i’d willingly pay up to 60
about 1 year ago
We have reached consensus.
My girlfriend and I would pay up to $60 each for the game, but we’re going to stick with the original if it has a subscription fee.
I will pay 50-60 bucks for the game if it doesn’t have sub fee. If it has sub fee I would pay 20-30 and it better be like $5-10 sub fee or I won’t get it wait till you guys make it free because it’s pointless to pay a sub fee for this kind of game just make it like hon was and everything will be fine $40 for the game.
Dear,
I’m in a poor country – Vietnam, I and many people in my country play DotA everyday, with young guys like me ( no job ), $2 per month is too much, but I can save every bit of money or ask my parents buy a game for me. So, if DotA2 has monthly fee – means many people can’t play, and we continue to play DotA 1 / HoN / LoL or something like thats. Maybe IF doesn’t make DotA 1 more, but will have someone to do it ( like DDay or DotA in the past ).
i would not pay for monthly fee for a game. its just not wise. if you bought the game already then that means you are the owner, if the owner cant play it unless he/she makes monthly payment for a game then how long will they keep on playing this expensive game? also, not everyone has that much money
about 1 year ago
Monthly fee would be the worst move valve could make, period. 40-50$ seems fair for me, although I can’t afford it.
I’d be willing to pay up to $20 but there’s no way in hell I’ll pay for a monthly fee.
i think 15 is enough for the registration
while 8 is enough for the monthly fee
one year playing = 15 + 96 = 111
consider that there are 1000000 players, means 1000000 * 111 = 111000000
that should be enough IF valve could develop this game well
about 1 year ago
Paying a decent upfront cost and no monthly fee would make me consider getting the game. A monthly fee will ensure I will never buy it.
Value supports many titles such as Team Fortress 2, Left4Dead series and many other without any monthly fees and constant updates, so why would DotA be the exception?
monthly fee? lol I would never pay for DotA monthly fee xD
about 1 year ago
I dont mind paying up to 60 dollars or a bit more but.. I am sure no one wants to pay monthly fees.
that s what i think.. i would lik to pay full 60 of the game. but i wont go for this game if it cost monthly..
i ll just stick on Dota 1.. or just quit this game. i play this game almost 6 year…
about 1 year ago
āAs for my part, Iād pay all up to 60$, with no problem with a monthly fee from 10 to 20$ā ā Why? Because I love the game story, I love Valve, I love DotA (1). ”
It’s like valve’s marketing is being done by kids, what kind of a quote is that ?
People play dota this much because it is free, the target market are not the of people who have money, yet people who have very little. Those are the people who fuel the garena dota servers, and 90% of them will not have the 10$ to buy the game let alone pay a monthly fee.
From what I have seen of Dota 2, its looks like HoN with dota players. This should not even be called Dota2, it should be called Dota. With that being said, HoN, and LoL are both free to play. LoL has always been this way, but you had to pay for HoN. In order to broaden its player base HoN needed to go free to play, and now follows LoL’s successful marketing plan.
I explain all of this for one reason: unless Dota 2 is free to play it will not be able to compete with the other free games, let alone bring in the big bucks that they are banking on. Yes there are hardcore dota fans, and they will always buy the game, but in order to really make money they need to be able to compete and gain a broader fanbase. whats better at getting a big fanbase than letting people try your game out before they buy it? Remember, dota itself was free to play. By the way, a monthly fee is out of the question. If they charge a monthly fee the entire game is dead on arrival.
I also question the poll, there is no “Free to play option,” nor is there a “Zero monthly fee” option. The poll is misleading without those options.
Good luck Valve, hope you make the right decisions.
I come from South Africa , I would pay $50 which is alot of money over here , but a monthly fee..? that is just so wrong. Corporates are just taking advantage of the opportunity and trying to exploit it. If they do incorporate a monthly fee is will just kill a great game.
Nooooooooo, no no no no.
I’d pay something up front. Maybe. I mean, I -really- like LoL. However, a monthly fee? God no. I love Valve, but a monthly fee is absolutely ludicrous.
As for the people who say “monthly fee will keep out trolls,” I would ask them to turn on trade chat in any capital city in WoW for ten minutes.
Or maybe just to get a PuG going in WoW.
Hell, I’d pay to troll people if I thought it would be really funny.
At any rate. No, no monthly fee, and not more than $20 for the game UNLESS it like… dispenses unicorns and rainbows or something.
I’d pay up to 50$. If the game has monthly fee, I wont buy it, and will stick to the original DotA.
I would pay $30 for the game and do not think monthly fees is a good idea. Paying for the game itself will prevent most trolling. I love Dota on Warcraft 3 and don’t think it would be worth more than $30
about 1 year ago
I would pay up to 25 or 30 no more…it used to be free and fun and absolutely no month fee, i LOVE DOTA, but 30 is more than enough, the development of the game is not so huge, it’s small, we are not talking about WOW, or COD.. I think a razonable price would be 14,99.
nahhhhh, I will ask my friends first. Its no use playing dota 2 if i will have my friends not playing it beacuse of the PRICE!!!!
My friends and i have being DOTA fans since 2005 or 2006 from WC3. To be honest I would gladly pay up to $40 since it is a awesome game. But i will not go for monthly fee. This isn’t MMORPG where u have to maintain the whole server and keep creating new realms. The game is short and simple with it’s addictive game play. All they have to do is create new heroes, create new items and maintain balance of the game by tweaking the abilities. THAT’s IT! SO HELL NO TO MONTHLY FEE.
Happy to pay an upfront fee, even $50 wouldnt matter. what i wont do is play if i have to pay monthly fee.
I am disappointed bcuz of this thing. Dota was free. I kno you had to have WC+TFT but still… I blame IceFrog. Selling his soul, and the entertainment of thousands of ppl. Anyone knows if he is going to stay at Valve to develop Dota Further? What am i talking? this is not Dota. this is Dota2 and dont you ever forget it. It’s not gona be the same.ever. I’d pay up to 30$ for it, but for a monthly fee, i’d kick the inventor of the idea in the face.Period
about 1 year ago
It would be better if we pay 60 dollar and that game shouldnt have monthly fee that is the best option i think.
GG DOTA 2 U LOST <.<
I will not play if Dota 2 isn’t free. Not worth it especially if LOL and HON are already free. Just my opinion…
about 1 year ago
Monthly fee sucks… that is probably why WoW is only blizzard PC game I don’t own (pity – its a great game) … even thou it should be no problem to pay 10 – 20 $ per month (usually people spend much more money on entertainment per month) and considering frequent updates (that are almost a must)… really difficult decision. The problem in my opinion is that people are used to pay for things (something valuable that stays) not for time (that vanishes away). This problem could be solved by paying for frequent DLC extensions (new heroes, items,…). I would pay up to 60$ for game and 2-3$ per DLC update (1-2 new hero, some new items would be enough to justify decent DLC pack), updates that only fixes balance and bugs should be for free. I wish you good luck in making a good decision.
I would pay up to $40 with no monthly fees.
I would pay 60$ for the game itself, but I don’t wanna pay monthly fees man….
I would pay 10-20-30-40 euro for the game itself but monthly fees …. no way
about 1 year ago
I think the game should be rather cheap, around $15-25, but have a montly fee, after all, after everyone buys the game, how is valve going to keep it runnin? remember that games are expencive, and i dont want dota 2 to end like hon and their greedy gold coins.
Fuck the monthly fee. I’d pay 60+ for the game, but if there’s a monthly fee I’m going back to DotA 1.
Since the game just needed a graphic restyle, and not su many develops, should be pretty cheap
about 1 year ago
I see a lot of arguments about valve adding a monthly fee to this game, which has its cons and its pros. Firstly with the cons is, those that do not have accessibility to pay for a monthly fee for reasons such as far distance or financial issues, would not play this game and stick to the first dota. The pro would be that (hopefully) there would be a better service and helpful GMs supporting the users. Although in my opinion, monthly fee’s can be replaced for an in-game Item Mall, where people may use real money to buy different skins or (if this feature is to be added) terrains. Doing this they could add a higher price for the game. They wouldn’t receive as much as they would with monthly fee’s, but they will definitely have more and happier players.
As for me, if the game were not too pricey (around $10-$30), I wouldn’t mind paying a monthly fee of around $5.
God bless.
i will pay up to 50 euro of dota2 buy i’m not agree to pay a monthley fee!!!!! And note this: There are a lot of games similar with dota, and they are for free! like L.O.L.
Monthly fee? are u all crazy ? wtf is that shit..Do u expect ppl playing dota with monthly payment…or you dont really care ???
I Would Pay Maybe up to 40$ like Heroes of Newirth was, But as for the Monthly fee, I would not pay a cent for a monthly fee with such great games like HoN and LoL and the newest release RoTT. I realize there is servers, but if you do what League of legends did by having download-able skins for cash that would cover servers
about 1 year ago
i would gladly pay a juicy price for that game. ive been around since 5.87 and even some older versions, way back when guinsoo did the maps, thats 6+ years. but im telling you: you will fuck it up if you request a monthly fee. thats something only MMORPG players are willing to pay.
i played dota 1 because the WC3 engine was absolutely amazing, but i’d choose a different game engine without a doubt, like LoL or HoN, and even face the steep learning curve again if a monthly fee is forced upon me.
We don’t want monthly free
and we will buy it and play it
In my opinion the game should have one time fee of 35-45 euros. It CANNOT be free for very obvious reasons and microtransactions, used by LoL and HoN (2.0 i think), ruin the game in my oppinion. Subsciption fees will surely encourage people into trying the game for a month or so, but will keep many more from playing the game for long periods. Also one time fee does NOT prevent the publisher from keeping their servers up and supporting the game. People have been playing Warcraft3 for MANY MANY years and Starcraft for EVEN MORE!
PS. To all the People that want the game to be free and threaten to go back to playing DotA on Battlenet. BE MY GUEST. If you dont want to support the effort made by Valve and Icefrog to improve the gaming experience, go back to Warcraft III.
If I’m wrong about anything feel free to comment.
Why would people start the game if all Valve is doing is putting on the monthly fee to make sure they don’t stay for a long time, however some people may have the money, IMO, it’s totally up to the publisher, they still should have put a vote to say “No monthly fees”, just to see peoples’ opinions.
Thanks.
